I've added the beginnings of the Heroes 5 Spells page and the Heroes 5 Skills page.  I will attempt to add some short descriptions, but please bear in mind that they will be speculations.  Once we get verified information concerning spells and skills I'll update the pages accordingly.

I *told* you there would be news today.  :O)  Today, Ubisoft posted this on the official site......

Registrations are open for the closed beta of Heroes of Might and Magic V! Register now for a chance to help balancing the game and discover first-hand the new Might and Magic universe.

The closed beta will begin mid-September and will last approximately 2 months.

A thousand testers from all origins and all playing backgrounds will be recruited; if you're new to the game you still have a chance of being selected so please answer the questionnaire honestly.

To take part in the beta you'll need a good internet connection in order to download the initial files and updates. Please make sure your PC has the latest drivers and updates as the code will not be optimized at this stage yet. Of course, knowing a bit of English will be more than helpful Smile

Finally, you'll be asked to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA). Make sure you understand the terms and conditions, especially regarding confidentiality.

Now, that you're done with the reading and are all set, head over to the registration page!

Several of the fan-sites were given seats to the closed Beta to distribute among a selected group of testers.  Fan sites were chosen on the status of having a large community through a forum (message board).  Unfortunately, The Genie's Lamp has no forum and therefore did not receive any seats to the Closed Beta Test.  I'm adding that bit of info to stop the e-mail messages of "can I have a seat?" before they start.  :O)  We thought about giving a seat to the winner of the Map of the Week contest, but unfortunately the timing is just not right.  We needed to have a winner declared in about a week, so we'll just have to do without here in the Lamp.  But you'll all have plenty of opportunities to get in on the action.  I personally do have a seat at the Closed Beta test, and I'll pass along any information through this news-page that I'm allowed to pass on.  (I doubt that it will be much due to the Non-Disclosure Agreement that everyone must sign in order to participate in the Closed Beta test).  As more details come forward, I'll update this page with the latest developments.

Congratulations go out to our winners of the Map of the Week contest.  The Heroes 3 map had 2 winners again this week.  Heroine_LL won the speed contest, while she shared the score victory with K.  That has put both of them in a tie for first place.  Yet again, Fiur was the only competitor in the Heroes 4 version.  Due to a lack of interest, this will be the final week for the Heroes 4 contest.  Hopefully Fiur will join us for the Heroes 3 contest.

I added 4 new screen captures from the 2nd Games Convention video.  Of special note is the two images that show the hero screen.  These detail the hero's army and stats as well as the hero's inventory.  Looking closely you'll notice that the familiar stats of Attack, Defense, Spell Power, and Knowledge have returned.  These new images can be found on the Heroes V Video Capture page, and the video link can be found on the Heroes V Multimedia page.  The much longer first GC video has unfortunately been taken down.  If anyone has the web-space to host that first video, I'll be happy to update the link.

I also added a few new wishes to the Heroes 5 wish list.

Stay tuned to this page for important announcements in the coming days. *wink*

The new Map of the Week maps have been posted.  This week we're going with Grandmaster:  by Charles Watkins for Heroes 3, and for the Heroes 4 edition it's Siren's Prism:  by Abe123.  The final results from last weeks maps will be posted tomorrow (just in case someone send in their submission on the last day...today).

Mystic Phoenix, of Drachenwald.net, posted a rather large video clip today from the Games Convention in Germany.  I've added the link to this video on the Heroes V Multimedia page.  I'll be doing some video captures from this video later today.  It is a VERY large download, but if you're an avid Heroes fan like I am, it's well worth the time.  The sound quality is very poor, but the information provided more than makes up for it.  Enjoy.

I've added 31 screen captures from the video released today.  The quality is mediocre, but for those of you who can't get this large download, this is better than nothing.  :O)  You can find them all on the Heroes V Video Capture page.

While Fabrice and some of the Ubisoft team is at the new Games Convention, a fan happened to snap a few photos of the Ubisoft Heroes V booth.  So we've got 5 new screenshots posted.  Not much new info to be garnered from them, but we do see a sneak peak into the spell book.  The spell book however looks very similar to the one in the old stolen Nival screenshots.  So this could very well still be a work in progress.  And speaking of the stolen Nival screenshots.  These were apparently obtained from a stolen version of an early Alpha version of the game.  None of the information in this Alpha should be taken to heart because Fabrice has stated that most everything in them has been redone.  With that in mind, 18 more screenshots from that infamous stolen Alpha popped up on the web today as well.  Again, I remind you, these screenshots are posted only for entertainment purposes and they have no bearing on the current state of the game.  That said....enjoy.  These newest screenshots are at the bottom of the Heroes V Screenshot page.

Added information for the newest revealed faction...The Necropolis.  Background History, Town troops, Concept Art and several new Screenshots have been posted.  Enjoy!  I sure know I am.  :O)

We've also gotten confirmation (via the Necropolis History) that one more faction yet to be revealed will be the Academy.  *here's to hoping that means my genie is back in*  :O)

Redesigned the Heroes 5 towns page, and the Heroes 5 troops page.  Hopefully this makes viewing these pages much easier.

Added some new wishes to the Heroes 5 wish list

Congratulations to all of the victors in this past weeks Map of the Week contests.  H3's map Running with the Bulls, by Ungoliant had multiple champions.  The speed victory was captured by K, while the score victory was won by both K and Heroine_LL.  H4's map Prince Valiant, by Sarvi was a clean sweep yet again this week by Fiur.  Unfortunately this is the second week in a row where only one player competed in the Heroes 4 edition of the Map of the Week.  Unless we start to get some more players interested in trying the Heroes 4 maps, I may just scrap that version of the contest and simply focus on the Heroes 3 version.  So if you want to keep the H4 version going....start sending in those submissions!

All the final scores can be seen on the Archived Scores page.  While the updated rankings can be viewed on the Seasonal Rankings page.

As always, good luck and Happy gaming!

The new Map of the Week maps have been posted.  This week we're going with Survive and Conquer: by Cattleman for Heroes 3, and for the Heroes 4 edition it's A Beautiful Land: by Veldrynus.  The final results from last weeks maps will be posted tomorrow (just in case someone send in their submission on the last day...today).

As usual, good luck and happy gaming!

Added the descriptions and histories for the Inferno and Haven factions on the Heroes 5 towns page.  Also added some missing Heroes 3 art to the Art Gallery.

I apparently needed to post a clarification.  Several people seem to think I am some sort of "official" source for Heroes 5 information.  This is simply not the case.  I'll report all the up-to-date information I receive from Ubisoft as usual.  But I will also post my own opinions on what I think this will mean for the game based upon this information.  All of the Troop special abilities are a prime example of this.  So I apologize for any confusion this may have caused.  I'll try to be clearer in my presentation of information.  Thanks for bearing with me.  :O)

Redesigned the Heroes 5 troops page.   I will hopefully be able to start working on the redesigns for several other pages before this weekend.

There are still several days remaining for this week's Map of the Week contests.  If you have any questions pertaining to this competition, please don't hesitate to e-mail me.

I've also added a ton of new wishes to the Heroes 5 wish list page.  Keep 'em coming folks.  We've still got plenty of time to get your wishes incorporated into the game.  Or at least into an expansion.  :O)

Added lots of new Heroes 5 information.  Added a new Developers Diary on the Reviews page.  Also added lots of new concept art including art for every Haven and Inferno unit.  Also updated the Heroes 5 troops page with all the correct unit names, including the upgraded units and brief descriptions of their innate abilities.

Also added a surprisingly overlooked site on my part La Torre De Marfil.  Truthfully, I honestly thought I already had that site on the links page.  Alas, the memory of this genie isn't what it used to be.  :O)

Added some new wishes to the Heroes 5 wish list page.

I will also be adding the new information that Ubisoft posted earlier today regarding the Might and Magic world and storyline.

The new Map of the Week has been posted for both Heroes 3 and Heroes 4.  For our initial week of the contest, we had one entry.  So congratulations to Fiur on his *sarcasm mode on* "highly contested victory" *sarcasm mode off*.  :O)  Let's hope a few more players join the fray this week.

For this week I've chosen Running with the Bulls, by Ungoliant for Heroes 3, and for Heroes 4 we'll go with Prince Valiant, by Sarvi.  All submissions need to be sent to me by Monday August 15th.  As usual, good luck and happy gaming!

I've updated the Rules of Fair Play page to include information regarding the use of user-made mods in the Map of the Week contest.  Thanks Fiur for the heads up.

A big HAPPY BIRTHDAY goes out to my loving wife.  I still don't know how she's managed to put up with this annoying genie all these years.  Happy Birthday!

A bit of sad news concerning the Heroes community at large.  Ungoliant's site Portal of Might and Magic is officially gone.  Due to some health problems and a computer crash his site had run into disrepair this past year or so, but there were some glimmers of hope that he (and his assistants) would get it repaired and up and running again.  Alas, yet another old heroes site has bit the dust.  Farewell Ungo, your site will be missed.

The new  Map of the Week contests have begun.  This week we're going with Falasia, by Scrowe for the Heroes 3 contest, and Waterwyrd, by Qrystal for the Heroes 4 edition.  Please make sure you read the Rules of Fair Play page before participating in the contest.  If you have any questions concerning the Map of the Week contest, please feel free to e-mail me at capliske@houston.rr.com.

As usual, good luck and happy gaming.
