To all, who interested in balanced HMM Tournament mods.
I recommend you to have a glance at HMM TE topic: http://www.celestialheavens.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=630

To play it, you need WoG 3.58 or 3.58f.
But we arrange tournaments too. Smile The last has started few days ago, you are welcome to participate: http://forum.heroesleague.ru/viewtopic.php?t=1452

I couldn't run WoG, as I have a german RoE and both english AB and SoD.

Now if the collectors edition of HV really contains H3, I might get an English copy Smile

The language of your RoE doesn't matter at all. Neither the AB one.

Only SoD. And if it's English it's fine. So if it didn't work, it means that the regional settings of your computer are not set on English. Just switch everything to English to instal WoG, and then switch it back (you need English only for instaling, not for playing).

That program is sacreligious!!!! *holding his finger over the 'delete thread' button* Nah.

But I will say that I can't stand that mod (or the Equilibris one either). They just don't "feel" right. IMO, Heroes 3 is about as perfect as a game can get...no need to mess with THAT. :O)

Let me guess... You tried the campaigns? Those really suck. I mean, there are some nice ideas, but basically they suck, as compared to previous games. Also the endless blesses & curses from sphinxes, the 4 boring gods, and a few experiments like this... Well, most of those are gone. Or at least hidden.

Just one question Chuck, ...
Have you actually played a game with WoG 3.58?

Good question. Razz Actually, starting 3.57, the game really deserves a chance Chuck (well, also before, but then it was more experimenting). If you know how to edit the settings, it's basically the H3 you love, but with tweaked skills, plus some new creatures & artefacts (just as AB & SoD brought). Now Learning, Scouting, Eagle Eye, and all other skills that were underbalanced there (and that we're trying to balance now in H5) are all balanced and all equally worth taking.

Heh, Wog? That super weird mod that breaks the balance of the game? I find it to be a nice gimmick if you're REALLY sick of HIII but otherwise I find it to try to make heroes into something else
The campagins are terrible and try to make heroes an RPG or an adventure game.

I agree that the campaigns are terrible, but I don't agree that it breaks the balance. The balance is only broken if you force that by the settings you choose in the beginning. But otherwise, it actually brings more ballance than that game ever had (again, if you know how to edit the settings). Let's take a few examples:

* Scouting - who was incredibly thrilled, when (s)he got that skill at a which hut, filling the last skill slot, where an Earth Magic would have come way more at handy, on an XL Map, when you had already like 6 towns and the Town Portal spell in one of them. Now there are three sollutions to prevent such an unballancing difference between the two skills:
1. Scouting is way more powerfull, allowing you to get way more information from the nearby objects, send spies, and gives free rogues each day - if you enable it.
2. Which Huts are asking you if you want the skill.
3. Town Portal, if you want, can be banned from the map.

* Actually, all the overpowered spells (like DD, AB, Fly etc) can be individually banned if you choose so.

* And all other skills that we were running away from, like Eagle Eye, Scholar, and even Sorcery, Artillery, Ballistics and so on, are all tweaked, because, let's face it, till SoD, skills like Earth Magic, Water Magic, Air Magic or Logistics, were always a no brainer as compared to half of the others. Now there is practically no skill that can be called useless. On any map.

* And so many other tweakes: Phoenix's growth reduces, the slightly underpowered Inferno is now tweaked up a bit, etc.

Just a few examples.

WoG suffers from standard linux syndrome.

For example, ill take 20 random people from my college comparing windows to linux.
10 people think windows is decent, 10 think its very bad, ...19 use it
19 people linux is too much of a mess, 1 thinks its best OS ever, .... 1 uses it

now similar example for wog:

10 people think sod is as good as wog, 10 think it could use som of better wog features,.... 19 people use SoD
19 people think wog is too much of a mess, 1 thinks its pefect, .....1 uses it

IMHO, wog needed to be a bit more standardised to be atractive to greater player base... There are some great ideas, great addons, but they are *somewhere* in the sea of semi-usefull and little-usefull one-guy script creations.
WoG team should have sat down, voted for each feature that is so far enabled in wog... See what features get at least 80-90% aproval in the team, and make those options standard, and unchangeable in most cases.

Result would be something like Wog without most of semi-usefull, questionable scripts... It would only have quality addons (80-90% of the team would assure its not some pointless feat or addon)
Number of added creatures would drop to only those that are rlly good (i think nightmares werevolves and ghost, etc.. are certainly leagueas above messengers and those god- things)
